MaxView Express is an online document repository service that works in conjunction with and as an extension of MaxView Corporation’s document organization, security and viewing tools. Together with these tools MaxView Express provides a very convenient way to assemble, organize and keep up-to-date all of the documents related to a Project and make them available simultaneously to other team members over the Internet.
Documents are prepared and organized into a project at the user’s PC workstation using a free download of MaxView software. MaxView has a built-in communication function, which uploads the project to the MaxView Express website where it becomes available to team members. Team Members use MaxView to access the project on the website, preview the documents and selective download them to their local PC workstation where viewing, takeoffs and printing can be done. When uploading the project to MaxView Express, the user may select an optional listing mode called Exchange, which provides additional functionality and is described further in the MaxView Exchange section.
MaxView Express is a major step up from distributing documents manually using paper or via CD or using a simple E-mail attachment or FTP approach to document dissemination. Individual documents or pages can be stored in their native Windows file format, such as standard CAD, BIM 3D (eg. Revit) or converted to a common format such as PDF or to a more compact and secure ‘electronic paper’ image format using a print driver provided by MaxView. Documents that are converted to the image format can be viewed using MaxView but because they cannot be altered they are more secure and because they are highly compressed they can be transferred very efficiently over the Internet.
Once the MaxView Project documents are on the MaxView Express website, individual pages are locked. New pages may be added and existing pages may be replaced and retired. After the initial upload and each time pages are added or replaced/retired, all Project participants are automatically alerted by an e-mail message that can be customized to include descriptive information of the changes. In addition, each time a participant accesses the Project on MaxView Express, their local MaxView Document Explorer list of the available pages is updated. And finally, the MaxView Express website keeps a record of activities for future reference.
