MaxView Exchange provides an enhanced set of local workstation tools for all participants in a MaxView Express Project to create document annotations and the capability to return them to the MaxView Express website where they are made available to other Project Participants. The Project Originator selects the MaxView Exchange option at the time a Project is initially established on the MaxView Express website, at which time MaxView’s MaxMarkUp functions become available to all participants of the Project.
Project documents that are in image file format use ‘layers’ to store the annotations. A new layer is automatically created for the participant when the MaxMarkUp tools are used. The layer name can be customized to include a construction discipline and the creating participant’s name. Annotation tools include full takeoff capabilities, freehand sketch and highlighters, text, arrows and a note with a note reply function. The annotation layers are normally viewed on top of and appear to be part of the image file. Selected layers can be turned off for viewing or printing. As each participant uploads each new layer to the MaxView Express website, the layer is locked and merged with those created by other project participants. Their workstation copy of the project with a complete list of all files including all layers is updated at the same time.
In addition, annotation layers may carry an attachment object or file selected by the participant. Using the attachment tool also provides a way for documents stored in any other format or even marked-up or modified using any other tool to be returned to the MaxView Express website for download by other participants.
Initial versions of the MaxView Express facility may not have an ‘Exchange’ selection when a project is posted: In this case, all projects are automatically equipped with Exchange functionality and all users may use full Exchange capabilities until the selection of Exchange as an optional choice is implemented.
